World’s First Sufi Opera Singer Performs at PNCA

Islamabad: Saira Peter, the world’s first Sufi opera singer, and other well-known singers captivated the crowd in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday during a live charity concert at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) as part of a charity musical show for flood victims.

The show was organized by PNCA in collaboration with Art Aid and Hunerkada – College of Visual and Performing Arts. Other performers included renowned Nouman Lashari, Jia Nouman, Nadir Abbass, and Rajea Iman.

The event is a part of PNCA’s ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the musical heritage of the nation’s various regions, and honour artists for their contributions to their fields.

PNCA Director General Ayub Jamali stated, “The musical concert not only raised money for flood victims but also amused the audience with melodies from the singers complemented by instrumental accompaniment on many well-known songs. Additionally, it gave artists a nationwide stage on which to perform melodically for fans of entertainment.”

Folk artists and musicians have a distinct identity within the national cultural mainstream, and these artists from all over the nation are constantly promoted through a variety of PNCA activities, including musical evenings, culture shows, exhibitions, and travelling shows.

Ayub Jamali added that such performances offer a wonderful chance to take in the melodies and traditional songs performed live by both rising and famous artists, and they also spread a message of peace, love, and harmony by fusing various representations of the subcontinent’s rich musical history.
