Thunderstorms to Lash Punjab for Five Days

Lahore: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall over the next five days, prompting authorities to warn of possible flooding in rivers, canals, and low-lying areas.

Rainfall continued across several cities in Punjab, including Lahore, while intermittent showers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi brought a noticeable drop in temperatures and pleasant weather conditions. 

The Met Office expects the wet spell to continue into next week, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to the PMD, gusty winds are likely to keep temperatures below seasonal levels in Lahore. The city’s temperature was recorded at 27°C, with the maximum expected to reach around 32°C during the day.

In view of the forecast, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed deputy commissioners across Punjab to ensure district administrations remain on high alert and take precautionary measures to deal with any emergency situation arising from heavy rainfall.

The PDMA has also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during intense downpours and stay away from rainwater drains, rivers, canals, electricity poles, and dilapidated buildings, warning that these areas pose an increased risk during severe weather.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow official weather advisories and exercise caution as the prolonged spell of rain could trigger localized flooding and disrupt normal life in parts of the province.
