Newborn Suffers Thumb Loss at HFH, Nurse Named in FIR

Rawalpindi: A serious medical negligence allegation has emerged from Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, where the thumb of a 23-day-old baby girl was amputated while she was receiving treatment in the hospital’s nursery.

Police have registered a case against a nurse following a complaint filed by the baby’s father, Qaiser, who alleged that his daughter suffered the injury during her stay at the hospital.

According to the FIR, the father said he discovered that his newborn’s thumb had been amputated when he visited her in the nursery. The duty doctor reportedly informed him that the injury occurred accidentally and that nurse Neelam Siddique was responsible for the procedure that led to the amputation.

The father stated that he was assured an inquiry would be conducted and that he would be informed about the findings, but he has not yet received any update regarding the investigation.

The baby girl was born at Holy Family Hospital 23 days ago and was admitted to the nursery after experiencing breathing difficulties. The incident has raised concerns over patient safety protocols and monitoring procedures in neonatal care units.
