Why Did Attaullah Esakhelvi Prepare His Own Grave?

Lahore: Pakistani legendary singer Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi has sparked discussion online after revealing that he has already prepared his own grave, saying the decision was inspired by his reflections on life, death and the afterlife.

Speaking during a recent podcast, the veteran singer shared that his grave has been reserved in his hometown of Esakhel, where his family’s ancestral cemetery is located.

“I have prepared for the afterlife. My grave is ready in Esakhel. If you visit me, I’ll show it to you. Otherwise, you’ll see it someday,” he said with a smile, adding that while he jokingly mentioned setting aside space for his wife, he has only prepared his own grave.

Attaullah explained that the idea came after building a farmhouse and a mosque, as he felt his final resting place should also be nearby.

The singer said the passing of his mother, relatives and close friends made him reflect deeply on the temporary nature of life. He added that his only prayer is for Allah Almighty to grant him a peaceful death and have mercy on everyone.

His remarks have since gone viral on social media, where users have expressed mixed reactions. While many praised his openness about preparing for the hereafter and viewed it as a reminder of life’s realities, others debated whether such arrangements should be discussed publicly.
