Naran: The Babusar Top Road has been closed for all types of traffic until June 6 as authorities continue intensive operations to clear heavy snow, glaciers, and debris from the high-altitude route linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to an official travel advisory, ongoing snowfall and adverse weather conditions in the Babusar Top area have hampered clearance efforts. Significant snow and glacier deposits remain at multiple points along the route, prompting the National Highway Authority (NHA) and district administration to launch a comprehensive operation before reopening the road for regular traffic.
Officials said the route had earlier been opened on a one-way basis to facilitate travel towards Babusar Top and Gilgit-Baltistan. However, this partial opening led to severe traffic congestion and blockages due to a surge in tourist movement during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, combined with the narrow, snow-covered road sections.

Following the holidays, authorities initiated a large-scale clearance operation to fully remove remaining snow, glaciers, and debris from the roadway. The road has now been completely closed to ensure the safety of travelers and to allow heavy machinery to operate without interruption.
Machinery deployed in the area is actively working to widen the carriageway and remove accumulated snow obstructing smooth traffic flow. Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to restore the road to safe and fully operational conditions and to prevent future traffic disruptions.
Tourists and transporters planning to travel towards Gilgit-Baltistan have been advised to use the Dasu route as an alternative during the closure period.
The public has also been urged to cooperate with the police and district administration and avoid unnecessary travel towards Babusar Top until the route is officially reopened.
