Armed Men Attack ICT Police Team During Operation

Islamabad: A suspect in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police custody was injured after armed accomplices allegedly opened fire on a police team in the Shahzad Town area during a recovery operation.
According to a police official, the team was returning after recovering evidence on the identification of detained suspect Khaliq Akhtar when armed men, who were reportedly waiting along the route, attacked the police party.
During the exchange of fire, the suspect sustained bullet injuries allegedly from the firing of his own accomplices. Police personnel remained safe due to the use of bulletproof jackets and other protective measures.
The injured suspect was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police said Khaliq Akhtar was a proclaimed offender with a criminal record and was wanted in several cases, including attempted murder, drug trafficking and other serious offences.
The police team also recovered an illegal pistol and ammunition from the suspect.
A search operation has been launched to trace and arrest the attackers and other individuals involved in the assault on the police team.
