Beijing: A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized on Wednesday that China and Pakistan were all-weather strategic cooperative partners and iron-clad brothers, declaring that no attempt to undermine cooperation between the two countries would succeed.

According to Lin Jian, during his regular briefing, China and Pakistan enjoyed a special relationship, with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) significantly contributing to the socioeconomic development of Pakistan.

In response to a question regarding a terrorist attack resulting in the casualties of five Chinese citizens in Pakistan, he strongly condemned the act of terrorism and expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives, extending sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.

Lin Jian highlighted that following the attack, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan promptly activated the emergency response mechanism.

They took emergency actions, engaged in close communication with Pakistan both in Beijing and Islamabad, and urged thorough investigation into the incident.

Additionally, they called for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice.

Lin Jian further stated that China had requested Pakistan to take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals, institutions, and projects within its borders.

He mentioned that the Pakistani authorities had assured thorough investigation into the incident and pledged to keep the Chinese side informed of the progress in a timely manner. Moreover, Pakistan vowed to enhance security measures to safeguard Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating in the country.

The spokesperson reiterated China’s firm stance against terrorism, expressing unwavering support for Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism. He emphasized that China would work closely with Pakistan to reinforce the safety and security of Chinese interests in the region.

Following the attack, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan to convey condolences and sympathy to the affected families and the Chinese government.

He strongly denounced the terrorist act and reaffirmed that such attempts to undermine the friendship between Pakistan and China would not succeed.

Lin Jian highlighted that President Asif Ali Zardari, along with other prominent political figures, also condemned the attack and expressed condolences for the lives lost.

He acknowledged the condolences and sympathies extended by various countries to the Chinese victims and expressed China’s appreciation for their solidarity.

The spokesperson stressed that terrorism is a global menace, underscoring the shared responsibility of the international community in combating it. He reiterated China’s commitment to collaborating with Pakistan in investigating the incident thoroughly, bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan advised Chinese citizens and businesses in the country to remain vigilant, closely monitor the local security situation, and enhance security measures to prevent further terrorist attacks.

Lin Jian reaffirmed China’s dedication to supporting Pakistan’s economic and social development and improving the livelihoods of its people. He emphasized China’s ongoing commitment to delivering tangible cooperation and benefits to both nations.

The attack on March 26, which resulted in the deaths of five Chinese nationals and one Pakistani, occurred on the vehicle of the Dasu Hydropower Project, undertaken by a Chinese company in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.
