CM Maryam Orders Probe Into Murree Expressway Van Fire

Islamabad: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in a tragic traffic accident on the Murree Expressway that left at least four people dead and several others injured.
According to officials, a tourist van caught fire on the Khajut section of the Murree Expressway, resulting in the deaths of at least four passengers, including women, while several others, among them children, suffered severe burn injuries.
Following the chief minister’s directives, the Murree administration and rescue teams immediately rushed to the site and launched relief and rescue operations. CM Maryam Nawaz ordered authorities to ensure immediate and the best possible medical treatment for the injured and also sought a detailed report on the incident.
She extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

On the instructions of the chief minister, Deputy Commissioner Murree Zaheer Abbas Shirazi and District Police Officer (DPO) Murree visited PIMS Hospital in Islamabad to inquire after the injured and review the medical facilities being provided to them.
According to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), the tourist van was suddenly engulfed in flames, triggering an emergency response. Officials said the vehicle’s doors were reportedly locked as the fire spread, trapping passengers inside.
Personnel from the Motorway Police and the Murree administration reached the scene shortly after the incident and initiated efforts to extinguish the fire and evacuate the victims.
A Motorway Police spokesperson confirmed that the fire had been brought under control, while rescue teams continued operations at the site to assess the extent of the damage and casualties.
Several injured passengers, including women and children, were shifted to PIMS Hospital Islamabad, while others were being treated at nearby hospitals.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Further details are awaited as rescue and assessment operations continue.
