FIA Registers Case Against 17 Over Illegal Travel to Iraq

Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Islamabad has registered a case against 17 people allegedly involved in illegal travel to Iraq through Iran.

According to the FIA, the case was registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Passport Act, 1974, following their interception at Islamabad International Airport.

The agency said the passengers’ passports were flagged in the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) during immigration clearance. They were subsequently stopped for further verification, during which officials found that all 17 individuals were listed on the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL).

During the preliminary investigation, the passengers allegedly told FIA officials that they had travelled illegally to Iraq through Iran after paying Rs120,000 each to an alleged agent, identified as Kamil Hussain, a resident of Parachinar.

The FIA said that after reaching Iraq, the passengers were arrested and fined by Iraqi authorities before being deported to Pakistan.

Investigators are now examining the alleged role of Kamil Hussain and other facilitators involved in arranging the illegal travel. The agency said their involvement would be determined as the investigation progresses.

The case has been registered as FIR No. AHTC-ICT-659/26, while Inspector Muhammad Azeem has been assigned responsibility for conducting the investigation.

The FIA Islamabad Zone said it would continue taking legal action against individuals and networks involved in illegal immigration and human trafficking.

Authorities have repeatedly warned travellers against using unauthorised agents and illegal routes to enter foreign countries, which can expose migrants to arrest, deportation, financial exploitation and other risks.
