Babar’s ‘Real King’ Remark Steals Spotlight at Charles Meeting

London: A formal meeting between King Charles and Pakistan’s cricket team took a lighter turn when former Pakistan captain Babar Azam jokingly referred to the British monarch as the “real king” after meeting him at Clarence House.
Babar, speaking to Sky Sports following the gathering, smiled as he said: “It felt really great meeting the real king today.”
King Charles welcomed the Pakistan national cricket team and spent time speaking with the players and team officials during the visit. Buckingham Palace later released a photograph of the meeting, confirming the team’s reception at Clarence House.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also attended the meeting, where discussions extended beyond cricket to Pakistan’s efforts to support peace and security.
Naqvi said the monarch encouraged the Pakistani players and acknowledged the country’s contribution to peace. He also discussed Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional stability with the PCB chairman.
Describing his conversation with King Charles as “very productive”, Naqvi said the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss both cricket and Pakistan’s broader role in promoting peace.
The Pakistan team also presented King Charles with a cricket bat as a commemorative gift, adding a sporting touch to the royal reception.
While the meeting carried diplomatic significance, Babar’s playful “real king” comment quickly emerged as one of its most memorable moments.
