PIC Organized Workshop on Business Reporting

Karachi: A two-day training workshop on ‘Business & Economics Reporting’ was held to educate journalists on how to report on business and economics, and were taught timely and fast business reporting tools.

The workshop was held at the Karachi Press Club under the Pakistan Information Center (PIC) a project of the Press Information Department (PID) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Reporters and journalists from leading TV channels, newspapers and websites in the Sindh province participated. They learned the distinction between business and economics, as well as the domestic and international economics situation during the training.

Renowned Economist and Lawyer Dr Murtaza Khuhro trained journalists and gave them examples of how to practice the best business and economics reporting.Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary General Rizwan Bhatti was the guest speaker on the first day of the training workshop.

Rizwan Bhatti said, “Journalists should give priority to the state while reporting on the economy and business, and should not give any news that has a bad impact on the national economy.”

On the second day of the workshop, chief guest PID Director M. Khalid Mairaj Abbasi stated, “PID has always worked for the betterment of journalists and journalistic institutions, and playing a role in enhancing the professionalism of journalists has been our top priority.”

Khalid said that under the PIC project, training workshops would be organised for the journalists from all over the province, including Karachi.

KPC President and Jang & Geo Digital Editor Fazil Jamili delivered a lecture to journalists emphasising the importance of business and economics reporting.

He also lauded PID for launching a project like PIC and hoped that it would enhance the professionalism of journalists, as well as appreciated them for selecting members of the Karachi Press Club on a priority basis to participate in training.

Financial Daily Editor-in-Chief also addressed the training program and gave tools to the journalists related to the importance of economic and business reporting.

During the workshop, PIC in-charge Rahim Bux also gave useful suggestions to the participants  and informed that, in the future, PIC would also conduct training programs in other cities of the province.
