Search Intensifies for Boy Swept Away in Nullah Leh

Rawalpindi: Rescue teams have intensified efforts to locate a six-year-old boy who went missing after being swept away by the rising waters of Nullah Leh in Gulistan Colony, with the operation continuing for a second day.

Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has divided the search area into three sectors, deploying specialised water rescue teams equipped for scuba diving, boat operations and line searches along different sections of the drain.

The search operation follows the recovery of the child’s father, 36-year-old Mehrban Khan, whose body was found on the first day and shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

Rescue 1122 Media Coordinator Muhammad Usman Gujjar said all available resources were being utilised to trace six-year-old Muhammad Zahid, as teams continued combing through multiple locations along Nullah Leh.

Officials said rescue personnel remain engaged in the operation despite challenging conditions, with efforts focused on finding the missing child as soon as possible.

Earlier on Saturday, a father lost his life while attempting to rescue his son after the child fell into the swollen waters of Nullah Leh in Rawalpindi’s Gulistan Colony.

The tragic incident took place in Line No. 3 of the area, where the child accidentally slipped into the fast-moving drain. Witnesses said the father rushed to save his son and jumped into the water, but the powerful current swept both of them away.

Rescue teams launched an operation following the incident, searching through different sections of Nullah Leh to locate the missing child. The tragedy has left the local community mourning as rescue efforts continue.
