Murree on High Alert as Heavy Rains Lash Hill Station

Rawalpindi: The Murree administration has placed all relevant departments on high alert after heavy monsoon rainfall hit the hill station and surrounding areas, with more than 100 millimetres of rain recorded over the past 24 hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported continued rainfall in the region, bringing cooler weather and attracting a growing number of tourists to the popular hill destination.

Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said authorities were closely monitoring the situation, while emergency response teams had been mobilised to deal with any potential challenges.

Personnel from Rescue 1122, police, traffic police, municipal authorities, the Highways Department and other departments are actively engaged in maintaining public safety and assisting residents and visitors.

The district administration is monitoring conditions through the control room around the clock, with special focus on vulnerable areas, including rainwater channels, highways and landslide-prone zones.

The deputy commissioner urged tourists and residents to remain cautious, follow safety instructions, avoid unnecessary travel to risky areas, and check weather updates before planning visits to Murree.

Visitors have also been advised to park vehicles only in designated areas, cooperate with traffic authorities and immediately contact emergency services in case of any incident.

The administration said protecting lives and property remains its top priority and all departments are working in coordination to manage monsoon-related risks across the district.
