PMD Warns of Flooding, Landslides as Monsoon Rains Intensify
News Desk
Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy rain, flash flooding and possible landslides in several parts of the country, urging tourists and residents, particularly those travelling to northern and mountainous regions, to exercise caution over the coming days.
According to the PMD, widespread thunderstorms and rain are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Jhelum and Lahore, with wet weather also forecast for parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The department cautioned that persistent rainfall could trigger landslides in hilly areas and cause local rivers and streams to overflow, increasing the risk of flash floods. Authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures in vulnerable areas.
The advisory specifically urged tourists planning to visit northern destinations to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to stay informed about weather updates before setting out.
In contrast, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain under hot and humid conditions, with the ongoing heatwave likely to persist. However, Karachi and other coastal areas may receive light rain or drizzle, offering temporary relief from the oppressive heat.
Meanwhile, parts of Balochistan, including Khuzdar and Zhob, are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain, while the rest of the province is expected to remain largely hot and dry.
The PMD has advised the public to monitor official weather advisories and avoid crossing flooded roads, streams and low-lying areas during heavy downpours, as monsoon activity continues to affect several regions across the country.
