Pakistan Struggles As Bangladesh Extends Lead In Sylhet

Dhaka: Bangladesh national cricket team continued to strengthen its position against Pakistan national cricket team on the third day of the second Test in Sylhet, extending its lead after steady batting performances.

Bangladesh resumed play on day three at 110 for the loss of three wickets with an overall lead of 156 runs. However, Pakistan struck early when captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed for 15 runs with the total at 115.

Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad continued his impressive spell, claiming three wickets, while Mohammad Abbas picked up one wicket for Pakistan.

Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 232 runs in their first innings, conceding a 46-run lead to the hosts after Bangladesh posted 278 in the opening innings.

Bangladesh’s first-innings total was powered by a brilliant century from Liton Das, who scored 126 runs.

For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad took four wickets, Mohammad Abbas claimed three, while Hasan Ali and Sajid Khan grabbed two and one wickets respectively.

Pakistan began the second day at 21 without loss but suffered early setbacks as openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal departed for 13 and 9 runs respectively.

Captain Shan Masood was dismissed for 21 with Pakistan at 61, while Saud Shakeel managed only eight runs before returning to the pavilion at a team total of 79.

Former captain Babar Azam top-scored for Pakistan with 68 runs before being dismissed at 142. Salman Ali Agha contributed 21 runs, while wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan added 13.

Lower-order resistance came from Hasan Ali, who scored 16, and Sajid Khan, who played a quick 38-run knock off 28 balls before Pakistan were all out for 232.

For Bangladesh, Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam claimed three wickets each, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets apiece.

Bangladesh started their second innings with a 46-run advantage but lost opener Tanzid Hasan early for four runs to Khurram Shahzad.

A solid 76-run partnership between Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque steadied the innings before Mahmudul was dismissed for 52 by Mohammad Abbas.

Mominul Haque, who had remained unbeaten on 30 at stumps on day two, was later dismissed for the same score by Khurram Shahzad as Bangladesh continued to build pressure on Pakistan in the Sylhet Test.
