Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan has dismissed speculation that he is planning to retire, saying his recent remarks about “retiring” were taken out of context.

The 83-year-old actor addressed the rumours on his blog after a newspaper report suggested that he was considering stepping away from acting and television.

Bachchan shared the newspaper clipping and explained that his comment, “It is late; the time has come to retire”, was not a reference to ending his career.

According to the actor, he was simply referring to the end of a long working day and meant that it was time to finish work and go to sleep.

Using his trademark humour, Bachchan clarified that “retire” in the context of his post meant calling it a day rather than retiring from the entertainment industry.

His clarification effectively put an end to speculation about his professional future, confirming that he remains active in both acting and television.

Bachchan is currently hosting the 18th season of the popular Indian quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, which first premiered in 2000.
