Babar Azam Returns to Domestic Cricket

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Test captain Babar Azam has decided to return to domestic cricket after a gap of seven years, according to sources.

Babar will represent Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in the President’s Trophy Grade-I after being signed by the team as a guest player.

The star batter last featured in domestic cricket in 2019. Since then, he has remained primarily involved in international cricket with the Pakistan national team.

According to sources, Babar’s return to the domestic circuit is aimed at giving him more opportunities to play red-ball cricket and regain his form ahead of upcoming Test assignments.

Babar scored his last Test century in 2022 and has since been looking to produce a substantial innings in the longest format. His participation in the President’s Trophy is expected to provide valuable match practice and help him prepare for Test cricket.

The inclusion of Babar Azam is also expected to strengthen the OGDCL squad, while domestic cricket fans will have an opportunity to watch the national Test captain compete at the domestic level after several years.
