Heavy rain, hailstorms forecast across Pakistan

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain, strong winds and hailstorms across several parts of the country over the next 24 hours, warning of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the Met Office, rain accompanied by strong winds and hailstorms is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and parts of Balochistan.
Heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore.
The department has also warned of flash flooding in streams and nullahs in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Murree, Galyat, Azad Kashmir and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Meanwhile, landslides are possible in mountainous areas of Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Gilgit-Baltistan due to the expected rainfall.
Most plains are likely to remain partly cloudy, although isolated areas may experience severe windstorms and hailstorms.
The PMD cautioned that strong winds and hail could damage weak structures and urged citizens to take necessary precautions.
Relevant authorities have also been advised to remain alert and take preventive measures in areas vulnerable to flooding, flash floods and landslides.
The department has also warned of flash flooding in streams and nullahs in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Murree, Galyat, Azad Kashmir and Dera Ghazi Khan.
