Two Held After Deportation from Tunisia Over Illegal Travel

Lahore: Two Pakistani nationals were deported from Tunisia after their attempt to illegally reach Italy by sea failed, officials said on Sunday.

According to a spokesperson for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore Zone, the two passengers, Muhammad Anas and Muhammad Arsalan, arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, on Saudi Airlines flight SV734 using emergency passports.

Upon arrival, both individuals were taken into custody by FIA Immigration officials and later handed over to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Lahore for further legal action.

Initial investigations revealed that the two men had stayed in Saudi Arabia for some time before travelling to Libya. From there, they allegedly attempted to enter Italy illegally by boat.

However, during the illegal sea journey, Tunisian authorities inercepted and arrested them. They were subsequently deported to Pakistan on emergency travel documents.

The FIA said further investigation is underway to identify the human smuggling network involved in facilitating the illegal migration attempt.
