Abbottabad: A 49-year-old tourist from Islamabad lost his life after falling into a ravine at Ambrela Waterfall within the jurisdiction of Nara police station, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Moazzam Ishaq, had arrived at the site along with eight friends for a recreational visit when the accident occurred.
According to the local police, he slipped and fell into a deep ravine.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Nara police station, along with a police team, responded promptly and retrieved the body, which was later shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.
The incident has once again highlighted growing safety concerns at the popular tourist destination. Visitors and local residents have repeatedly pointed out the absence of basic safety measures, including protective barriers, warning signs, and emergency response facilities.
Reports suggest that accidents involving tourists at the site have increased over the years, with fatalities raising alarm among the public.
It has also been noted that funds for the upgradation of the waterfall were approved some time ago, but no visible development work has yet been undertaken, prompting questions over delays in the project.
Given the hazardous mountainous terrain, stakeholders have urged authorities to either impose strict restrictions on visitors, particularly those unfamiliar with the area, or temporarily close the site until adequate safety measures are put in place.
Despite a steady rise in tourist influx, authorities have yet to implement comprehensive safety protocols, intensifying concerns over public safety and the management of tourist destinations in the region.
