CCTV at Centre of Inquiry Into Lahore Youth’s Death

Lahore: CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts are expected to play a key role in an inquiry into the death of a young electrician following a disputed traffic incident in Lahore’s Shadman area.

Muhammad Zain died after suffering severe head injuries in the incident on August 26. His family has alleged that a senior traffic warden was involved in the events that led to the crash and has called for an independent investigation to establish what happened.

According to a petition submitted by the family to the DIG (Operations) Lahore, Zain was travelling by motorcycle to his workplace in Shadman Market when traffic warden Sultanul Haq allegedly attempted to stop him while on duty.

The family alleges that the warden pushed Zain while he was on the road, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and collide with a footpath. He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Zain subsequently underwent brain surgery, but doctors were unable to save his life.

The family has disputed the account allegedly presented by the traffic official and claimed that a case was registered in a manner that placed responsibility for the incident on the deceased.

Relatives have urged investigators to examine CCTV recordings from the area and record statements from witnesses who they say were present when the incident occurred. They claim the footage shows the traffic official pushing Zain, while his colleagues and other bystanders allegedly witnessed the confrontation.

The family has also raised a separate dispute over the release of Zain’s body. His brother alleged that relatives were being asked to submit a written statement accepting responsibility for the accident before the body could be handed over. According to the family, Zain’s body remains at General Hospital.

The relatives have demanded that authorities conduct a transparent investigation and take legal action against anyone found responsible.

They have also requested the return of Zain’s personal possessions, including his cash, identity card and driving licence.

Following the allegations, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer took notice of the matter and ordered an inquiry by the SSP Sadar Zone.

The investigation will focus on available CCTV footage, eyewitness testimony and other evidence to determine the sequence of events and establish responsibility for the fatal incident.
