Sindh Sizzles as Temperatures Climb to 48°C

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and dry weather across most districts of Sindh over the next 24 hours, with severe heatwave conditions expected to continue in the province’s upper regions.
According to the Met Office, weather remained mainly hot to very hot and dry across Sindh on Wednesday, with several cities recording extremely high temperatures.
Dadu emerged as the hottest district where the mercury soared to 48 degrees Celsius, while Jacobabad, Mohenjodaro and Shaheed Benazirabad recorded 47°C. Temperatures in Larkana and Sakrand reached 46°C, Sukkur 45°C, Hyderabad 42°C, Mithi 41°C, Thatta 37°C and Karachi 36°C.
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation from Bangladesh visited the National Disaster Management Authority headquarters in Islamabad to study Pakistan’s disaster management system, early warning mechanisms and preparedness strategies for climate-related emergencies.

The delegation, led by Salmah Mahtab, toured the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), where officials briefed members on Pakistan’s disaster management architecture, anticipatory response systems and emergency coordination mechanisms.
Chairman NDMA Inam Haider Malik said Pakistan remained committed to enhancing regional cooperation in disaster risk management and emphasized the importance of collaboration between Pakistan and Bangladesh to address growing climate challenges.
Officials also highlighted the operational capabilities of the NEOC, including data-driven early warning systems, resource mobilization and international logistical support arrangements aimed at improving disaster response and preparedness.
During the visit, detailed presentations were delivered on “Pak Disaster Lens 2026” and “Global Disaster Lens 2026,” focusing on advancements in early warning systems, risk analytics and Pakistan’s alignment with international disaster management standards.
