Rawalpindi Sealed Under High Security Alert

Rawalpindi: Authorities in Rawalpindi have imposed sweeping security measures across the city, ordering the closure of markets, shopping malls, hotels, and other public spaces until further notice as foreign delegations are expected to arrive.
According to police officials, the restrictions will come into effect from midnight, with all commercial and recreational areas, including business centers and parks, remaining shut. Officials have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the orders.
The heightened security comes in response to the movement of international delegations, prompting what authorities describe as “extraordinary arrangements” to maintain law and order.
Educational institutions have also been affected.
All boys’ and girls’ hostels, including those at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, have been closed, with students directed to vacate and return home immediately.
Earlier, a high-level security meeting chaired by City Police Officer Khalid Hamdani reviewed the preparedness of law enforcement agencies. Officials briefed the meeting that approximately 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city to ensure security during the high-profile visit.
Authorities further stated that all entry and exit points of the city are under strict surveillance. Citizens have been urged to cooperate fully with security agencies and adhere to the issued guidelines to avoid inconvenience.
The duration of the restrictions has not yet been specified, with officials indicating that normal activities will resume only once the security situation is deemed stable.
Arid University closed till April 26
Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), has announced the closure of its main campus and affiliated institutes within the territorial jurisdiction of Rawalpindi from April 18 to April 26 due to security arrangements.
According to an official notification issued by the university administration, the decision was taken by the competent authority in consultation with deans and directors to ensure necessary security measures.
The notification stated that academic activities will continue through online mode during the closure period as per the prescribed timetable.
It further said that, following directions of the local administration, all students residing in university hostels have been directed to vacate the hostels immediately and ensure strict compliance with the instructions.
All university employees, including officers, teachers and staff, will perform their duties from home during the period, while essential services staff will remain available as per requirement, the notification added.
