Quetta Hit by Late Blow: Can Chandimal Fill Jacobs’ Shoes?
News Desk
Karachi: Quetta Gladiators have been dealt a timely disruption ahead of a decisive phase in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), with in-form batter Bevon Jacobs departing the squad due to international commitments.
The franchise confirmed that Jacobs has been called up to represent New Zealand national cricket team for an upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh, ruling him out of the remaining league fixtures at a crucial juncture.
Despite limited opportunities, Jacobs had made a notable impact, scoring brisk runs, including an unbeaten knock against Multan Sultans, and providing momentum in the middle order. His exit comes as Quetta struggle to climb the table, with only two wins from six matches.

In response, the Gladiators have moved swiftly to bring in experienced Sri Lankan campaigner Dinesh Chandimal as a replacement. Chandimal, a seasoned wicketkeeper-batter with prior PSL experience, is expected to join the squad immediately and slot into the lineup for the must-win games ahead.
Currently placed sixth, Quetta face mounting pressure to revive their campaign. Their immediate challenge comes against Peshawar Zalmi, followed by key fixtures against Lahore and Karachi, matches that could define their playoff chances.
The late squad reshuffle now raises a pressing question: can Chandimal deliver instant stability, or will the loss of a rising in-form batter like Jacobs prove costly in Quetta’s fight to stay alive in the tournament?
