Islamabad:  Islamabad Police have launched a strict accountability process against officials accused of corruption, with a constable arrested after allegedly demanding a bribe from a citizen at a checkpoint.

According to the police spokesperson, a case has been registered against Constable Bayam at the Secretariat police station, and the official has been taken into custody.

SSP (Operations) Islamabad Qazi Ali Raza said the constable would face legal proceedings and be punished in accordance with the law if found guilty.

He said departmental proceedings would be conducted alongside legal action against officials involved in corrupt practices.

“No official is above the law,” the SSP said, adding that indiscriminate action would be taken against personnel found involved in corruption.

Qazi Ali Raza said Islamabad Police had a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and that misuse of the police uniform for corrupt activities would not be tolerated.

He added that there was no place in the Islamabad Police for officials who brought disrepute to the department.

The SSP said the accountability process would continue without discrimination and strict action would be taken against corrupt elements within the force.
