Punjab Schools May Remain Closed Until April 15 to Conserve Fuel
News Desk
Lahore: In response to the ongoing energy crisis, the Punjab Energy Department has submitted a set of emergency recommendations to the provincial government aimed at reducing fuel and electricity consumption.
According to sources, the proposals include implementing fuel rationing across Punjab, modeled on federal government measures. Officials are also considering a coupon or digital system to ensure fair distribution of petrol and diesel. Another option under review is allowing fuel for limited vehicles only on specific days.
As part of energy conservation efforts, the department has recommended granting holidays in educational institutions until April 15 and introducing a hybrid education system for schools. Strict instructions for work-from-home arrangements in private institutions have also been proposed.
Additional measures suggested in the report include:
- Banning non-essential events and limiting market operating hours
- Operating street lights in alternate mode after 10 pm
- Switching off LED billboards and decorative lights
- Increasing metro and bus services to encourage public transport and reduce overall fuel consumption
Sources say the provincial government is reviewing these recommendations and a final decision on their implementation is expected to be announced soon.
These proposed measures reflect the government’s attempt to manage fuel and electricity shortages while balancing public convenience and energy conservation.
