DSP among six policemen injured in terror attack

Peshawar: Six policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a woman constable, were injured when suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party in Dera Ismail Khan district on Saturday.

The attack occurred near Amin Farm on Dera-Hathala Road when the police team, headed by DSP Kulachi Kifayatullah and SHO Kalachi Sher Afzal Khan, was on its way to conduct a raid in the area.

According to police, the attackers launched indiscriminate firing on the police party. During the assault, the police vehicle carrying DSP Kifayatullah reportedly went off the road and overturned, injuring several personnel.

The injured were identified as ASI Nauman Qasuria, Constable Qasim, DSP Kifayatullah’s gunman Ghulam Saeed, Hashim and woman Constable Amber Altaish. The DSP also sustained injuries.

Police personnel returned fire, compelling the attackers to flee. A large contingent of police and other law-enforcement agencies rushed to the area following the incident and launched a search operation to track down the fleeing suspects.

The area was cordoned off as security personnel conducted a search for the attackers. Police said the suspected assailants belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij.

The injured policemen were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan, where they were provided medical treatment.

Later, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghulam Mubashir Maken and District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ziauddin Ahmed visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured personnel.

They also received a briefing from doctors on their treatment and directed the hospital administration to ensure the provision of the best possible medical facilities.

The RPO provided financial assistance to the injured policemen and commended their courage and commitment in the face of the attack.

RPO Maken said police personnel were serving on the frontline in the fight against terrorism and continuing to perform their duties without fear.

He said the police force remained determined to foil the designs of elements threatening peace, adding that all available resources were being utilized to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

The RPO and DPO prayed for the early recovery of the injured and assured them of continued departmental support for their treatment, welfare and rehabilitation.

DI Khan police reiterated their resolve to combat terrorism and maintain peace and security in the district with courage, determination and professional commitment.
