Washington: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said Pakistan played a significant role in facilitating dialogue and ceasefire efforts between the United States and Iran, underscoring Islamabad’s growing diplomatic engagement in efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking at a press conference at Pakistan’s embassy in Washington following talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Dar said Islamabad helped create conditions that enabled direct engagement between Washington and Tehran.

He claimed that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts contributed to both the initial ceasefire and the latest truce between the two countries, describing the developments as evidence of Pakistan’s increasing relevance on the international stage.

Pakistan has gained a new identity on the global horizon,” Dar said, crediting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for strengthening the country’s international standing.

The meeting with Rubio was held in a cordial atmosphere and attended by Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States and senior Foreign Office officials. According to Dar, both sides discussed regional developments, bilateral cooperation and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

Following the meeting, Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic contributions and thanked Islamabad for its efforts to advance peace in the region.

“We agreed upon the importance of working together to further strengthen a meaningful partnership for better security and more prosperity for our two nations,” Rubio said in a post on X.

During the press conference, Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding support for Palestinian statehood, stressing that Islamabad’s position on Israel remains linked to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The remarks came amid intensified diplomatic activity by Pakistan as regional and international stakeholders seek pathways to de-escalation and long-term stability in the Middle East.
