NDMA Issues Weather Alert Across Pakistan from May 26 to 31
News Desk
Islamabad: The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert for May 26 to 31, warning of rising temperatures, rapid glacier melting, thunderstorms, hailstorms, flash floods, and landslides in several parts of the country.
According to the advisory, northern regions are facing increased risks due to rapidly melting glaciers and unstable weather conditions. Authorities warned that glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams could pose serious threats in vulnerable mountainous areas.
The NDMA said communication roads in several northern districts may face temporary closures due to rain, flooding, and landslides.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected between May 26 and 31, with rain forecast in Chitral, Dir, Mingora, Hangu, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Parachinar.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, where Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, and surrounding areas are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
In Punjab, rain and thunderstorms are expected from May 28 to 31 in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Okara, Faisalabad, Kasur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Multan.

Meanwhile, Balochistan is expected to receive rain in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman, Khuzdar, and Turbat during May 30 and 31, with hailstorms possible in some areas.
In Sindh, strong winds, thunderstorms, and rain are likely in Badin, Mithi, Hyderabad, and Karachi on May 30 and 31.
The NDMA has also warned of a severe risk of landslides in mountainous regions of Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Chilas, Astore, Shigar, Chitral, Kalam, Upper Kohistan, and parts of Azad Kashmir.
Several roads and highways have been declared sensitive due to the possibility of landslides and flooding. These include the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road, Jaglot-Skardu Road, Sugar Valley Road, Skardu Road, and Deosai Road.
The connecting roads between Shimshal Valley, Attabad Lake, Karimabad, Gulmit, Shiskat Bala, and Passu are also at risk.
Travel and tourism activities in Kalam, Ushu, Kandol, Arang Kel, Dasu, Pattan, and Chitral Valley may be disrupted due to adverse weather and road blockages.
The NDMA warned that rapid glacier melting and ongoing rainfall are increasing water flow in local rivers and streams, raising the risk of flooding in areas including Darkot, Lasht, Ishkoman, Pindoro, Reshun, Boni, Badswat, Shaspar, Gulkan, Hanarchi, Roshan, and Kumrat.
Flood-like conditions are also feared in Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar, Kharmang, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan.
The NDMA has directed all provincial and district administrations, along with relevant emergency agencies, to remain on high alert in sensitive areas and along vulnerable highways.
Tourists and travelers have been advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before visiting northern regions. The public has also been encouraged to use the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for timely updates and emergency information.
