NDMA Issues Alert as Winds, Rain Threaten Karachi
News Desk
Karachi: Strong winds continued to lash the port city on Sunday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting partly cloudy conditions and chances of rain at isolated places.
According to the Met Office, westerly winds are blowing at a speed of around 22 kilometres per hour, while humidity levels stand at 64 percent. The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 24.5°C, with the maximum expected to reach 31°C later in the day.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a countrywide alert, warning of more rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms as a fresh system of westerly winds is expected to enter most parts of Pakistan within the next 12 to 24 hours.
The NDMA said widespread rain accompanied by strong winds is likely across multiple regions, while snowfall is expected in upper and mountainous areas including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rainfall has been forecast for several cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Gujranwala, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in parts of central and northern Punjab.
The alert also covers a wide range of districts across the country, including areas in southern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where intermittent rain and strong winds are likely.
The NDMA has cautioned that strong winds, lightning and possible hailstorms could damage vulnerable structures, uproot trees and disrupt power supply. It also warned of an increased risk of landslides in hilly and mountainous regions due to continuous rainfall.
Authorities have directed all provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and take necessary precautions to deal with any emergency situation arising from the changing weather conditions.
