Lahore: A probe has been launched at Mayo Hospital Lahore after an internal audit raised concerns over discrepancies in the records of cardiac supplies, including stents and balloons, worth Rs22.3 million.

The audit of the hospital’s cardiology department reportedly found that records of 232 stents valued at Rs11.3 million and 1,059 balloons worth Rs11 million could not be verified.

Following the findings, the hospital administration constituted an inquiry committee through a notification issued on July 3, 2026, to investigate the matter and determine responsibility.

The audit report has raised allegations against the registrar of the cardiology department, accusing him of involvement in the alleged disappearance of the medical devices. The report further claims that government-provided stents and balloons may have been diverted to private hospitals and alleges attempts were made to influence the inquiry process.

Hospital officials said the investigation is ongoing and no final conclusions will be drawn until the committee completes its findings.

Meanwhile, Mayo Hospital COO Dr Abdul Madabar Rehan claimed he was facing pressure after highlighting alleged irregularities. He alleged that some YDA officials had threatened action against him and attempts were being made to remove him from his position.

Dr Rehan said he would continue to push for transparency and accountability, stressing that patient welfare and merit should remain the priority.

The case has renewed questions over oversight mechanisms for public hospital resources and the management of critical medical supplies in government healthcare facilities.
