Islamabad: Marking the 78th anniversary of the 1947 Resolution of Accession to Pakistan, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) on Saturday reaffirmed its stance on Kashmir’s political future and renewed its call for the right to self-determination.

In a statement issued in Islamabad, the APHC-AJK said July 19 commemorates the resolution passed by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in 1947 in support of accession to Pakistan. It described the day as a reminder of what it called the longstanding political and historical relationship between Kashmir and Pakistan.

The organization said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have continued their struggle for self-determination over the past 78 years despite what it described as political repression, security restrictions, and human rights violations.

Referring to India’s August 5, 2019, constitutional changes concerning the region, the APHC-AJK alleged that demographic changes, land-related policies, detentions of political activists, and restrictions on freedom of expression would not alter the region’s political realities.

July 19 is observed in Pakistan and by pro-Pakistan groups in Kashmir as “Accession to Pakistan Day” to commemorate the 1947 resolution passed by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference.
