Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and humid weather in Karachi over the next 24 hours, with temperatures expected to remain high across the city.
According to the department, the maximum temperature in Karachi is likely to range between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius today, while the minimum temperature recorded overnight was 27.8 degrees Celsius.
Officials said southwest winds were blowing at a speed of 12 kilometres per hour, while humidity levels were recorded at 78 percent, increasing the intensity of the heat.
The Meteorological Department also confirmed that Karachi recorded its hottest day of the year, with the mercury rising to 44.1 degrees Celsius.
Weather experts said hot and humid conditions are expected to continue tomorrow as well, with temperatures likely to remain as high as 39 degrees Celsius. Sea breezes are also expected to resume, though high humidity may make the temperature feel even more intense.
Meanwhile, hospitals across Karachi have reported a rise in heat-related illnesses. Medical experts said the number of patients suffering from respiratory problems, including asthma, has increased by around 20 percent due to the extreme weather conditions.
Health experts have advised citizens to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight to prevent dehydration and heat-related complications.
Elsewhere in the country, the highest temperatures were recorded in Dadu and Nawabshah, where the mercury climbed to 47 degrees Celsius.
In contrast, weather conditions remained comparatively moderate in Islamabad, Lahore, and Quetta, where a decrease in heat intensity was observed.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted rain and hailstorms in several parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours, including areas of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Hailstorms are also expected at isolated locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
