Rawalpindi:  The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have launched a citywide crackdown against motorcyclists riding without helmets, introducing stricter enforcement measures to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam has directed all circle and sector in-charges to implement a zero-tolerance policy, with special enforcement teams deployed at major entry points across the city to ensure compliance with helmet regulations.

Speaking about the campaign, CTO Farhan Aslam said protecting the lives of citizens remains the top priority of the Rawalpindi Traffic Police. He noted that motorcyclists account for nearly 73 percent of road accident victims, with head injuries being the leading cause of deaths in motorcycle crashes.

He said the ongoing helmet enforcement campaign has already contributed to a 40 percent reduction in head trauma cases over the past few months. However, he stressed that stricter implementation of traffic laws is essential to further reduce fatalities and serious injuries.

The CTO clarified that the campaign is aimed at saving lives rather than collecting traffic fines. He said wearing helmets significantly lowers the risk of fatal head injuries and also reduces the burden on hospital emergency departments.

Appealing to motorcyclists, Farhan Aslam urged riders to wear helmets for their own safety and the well-being of their families instead of merely avoiding penalties. He also advised road users to observe lane discipline and comply with traffic rules to ensure safer roads for everyone.
