Fake Reports of Gen (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa’s Death Debunked

Islamabad: False claims circulating on social media regarding the death of Qamar Javed Bajwa have been debunked, with officials and fact-checkers confirming that the former army chief is alive and in good health.
According to fact-checking sources, the misinformation originated from an X (formerly Twitter) account allegedly operated from Kabul, which falsely reported Bajwa’s death. The claim quickly gained traction online, sparking confusion before being dismissed as baseless propaganda.
Sources clarified that the rumors appear to be linked to a real incident earlier this year. In February 2026, Bajwa reportedly suffered a fall at his residence in Rawalpindi during the early hours, sustaining head injuries that required medical attention.

He was subsequently admitted to the Combined Military Hospital, where he remained under observation, including a brief stay in the intensive care unit. Medical reports at the time suggested minor injuries, including possible hairline fractures or a fainting episode linked to a cardiac issue. However, his condition was described as stable.
Family members, including his brother-in-law Naeem Ghumman, along with the Inter-Services Public Relations, had confirmed the incident and stated that he was out of danger and recovering well. No reports at any stage indicated gunshot wounds or any form of targeted attack.
Analysts note that the episode reflects a recurring pattern on Pakistani social media, where past incidents involving high-profile figures are revived and distorted to create sensational or misleading narratives—particularly concerning individuals associated with sensitive political periods.
