Peshawar:  A growing trend of risky social media video-making has come under scrutiny after the tragic death of a minor student in Peshawar, raising concerns over unsafe digital behavior among youth.

The incident occurred in the Palosai area, where a fifth-grade student reportedly lost his life after a firearm accidentally discharged while he was filming a video at home.

According to police, the child had taken a pistol from a drawer and was recording content in front of a mirror when the weapon went off, resulting in fatal injuries.

Authorities have launched an investigation under Section 174, and the body was shifted for postmortem examination.

The incident has reignited debate over the increasing culture of producing attention-seeking and dangerous online content, particularly among minors who are often driven by social validation and online visibility.

Observers and critics warn that children and young users are increasingly engaging in hazardous acts without adequate supervision or awareness of the risks involved.

Law enforcement and social commentators note that such cases are not isolated, citing recent incidents linked to disputes and violence over video content creation. In one such case in Yakatoot, a firing incident left seven people injured, while other fatal incidents have also been reported in different parts of the city.

Experts argue that the issue reflects a broader failure at both family and societal levels in guiding digital behavior and monitoring online engagement among youth.

They further point to the combination of easy access to weapons and the pursuit of sensational content as a dangerous mix contributing to such tragedies.

Calls are growing for stronger parental supervision, increased public awareness, and responsible use of social media to prevent further loss of young lives.

Authorities and observers have warned that without urgent intervention, the pursuit of online attention could continue to have deadly consequences.
