Beijing: In a significant diplomatic endorsement for Pakistan, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday praised Islamabad’s “constructive role” in efforts to promote peace in the Middle East during high-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing, as the two countries moved to further deepen their decades-old strategic partnership.
The meeting, held during PM Shehbaz’s four-day official visit to China, highlighted growing coordination between the longtime allies on regional diplomacy, economic cooperation, and global security challenges.
President Xi described Pakistan and China as “unbreakable friends” and reaffirmed that Beijing continued to place relations with Islamabad at the center of its neighbourhood diplomacy.
“Despite changing international circumstances, relations with Pakistan remain our priority,” Xi said, while referring to PM Shehbaz as an “old friend” and appreciating Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
The Chinese president also welcomed the presence of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, noting that he had recently returned from Iran as part of diplomatic engagements linked to regional peace efforts.
“Positive efforts and mediation measures for peace are commendable,” Xi remarked, praising Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and stability in the region.
PM Shehbaz, in response, reaffirmed that Pakistan and China remained “iron brothers” whose friendship had stood the test of time. Congratulating both nations on completing 75 years of diplomatic relations, he credited the enduring partnership to the vision of the founding leaders of both countries.

“The foundations of this everlasting friendship were laid decades ago, and together we have continued to strengthen it through mutual trust and cooperation,” the prime minister said.
The premier also lauded China’s rise under Xi’s leadership, calling Beijing a major global economic and military power with a key role in maintaining international peace and development.
Referring to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), PM Shehbaz described both initiatives as symbols of regional prosperity, connectivity, and friendship.
Earlier, the Pakistani prime minister held delegation-level talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People, where both sides discussed bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and joint peace efforts in the Middle East.
During the discussions, PM Shehbaz thanked Beijing for supporting Islamabad’s ceasefire initiatives and reiterated Pakistan’s backing for President Xi’s four-point proposal aimed at restoring regional stability.

He also revealed that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and China’s foreign minister had jointly introduced a five-point framework to support ceasefire efforts in the Middle East.
“The world is passing through a critical phase,” PM Shehbaz said, adding that Pakistan had played a “sincere role” in facilitating diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran.
The meeting also produced major economic and strategic outcomes as the two countries signed 15 agreements and memorandums of understanding covering trade, agriculture, climate change, counterterrorism, education, science and technology, media cooperation, and human resource development.
Among the agreements signed were cooperation pacts on economic development, environmental protection, agricultural exports, free trade, counterterrorism equipment, documentary co-production, and academic exchanges.
Both leaders witnessed the signing ceremony, underscoring renewed momentum in Pakistan-China relations at a time of rising geopolitical uncertainty and shifting regional alliances.
