Very Hot Weather to Persist in Sindh, KP Issue Glacier Alert
News Desk
Karachi/Abbottabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday forecast very hot and dry weather in most districts of Sindh during the next 24 hours.
According to the weather advisory, mainly hot and dry conditions are likely to prevail across other parts of the province during this period.
Meanwhile, the PMD has also issued a heatwave warning for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cautioning that temperatures are expected to rise significantly over the coming days, with the heatwave likely to persist until May 31.
The advisory warned that the extreme rise in temperatures could accelerate snow melting in northern and mountainous regions. Authorities said glacier-fed and snow-covered areas remain particularly vulnerable, as rapid melting may increase water flow in streams and rivers, posing potential risks to downstream communities.

Officials further cautioned that the intense heatwave could increase the possibility of glacier burst incidents in sensitive high-altitude areas. Monitoring and precautionary measures have therefore been intensified in glacier-prone zones.
In response to the situation, the Commissioner Hazara Division directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert and continuously monitor weather and glacier conditions. Authorities have also been instructed to ensure immediate relief operations in case of any untoward incident affecting tourists or local residents.
The commissioner emphasized that all major and link roads should remain open for traffic to facilitate smooth movement and timely emergency response.
Tourists and travelers visiting hill stations and mountainous areas have been advised to exercise caution, stay updated with weather forecasts, and strictly follow instructions issued by local administration and disaster management authorities.
In case of emergencies, the public has been advised to contact the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Helpline 1422 for immediate assistance.
