The World’s Most Expensive Wedding

News Desk

Islamabad: If you think that the most expensive wedding in Asia was the marriage of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in India, then you’re mistaken.

According to Guinness World Records, the honor of the world’s most expensive wedding goes to the marriage of British-Indian heiress Vanisha Mittal to investment banker Amit Bhatia.

Media reports indicate that the Ambani wedding is often compared to the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana as one of the most lavish, costing $110 million.

However, according to Guinness World Records, Vanisha Mittal’s six-day wedding celebrations, which featured a performance by Kylie Minogue for a reported fee of $330,000 for a 30-minute show, earned the title.

Additionally, Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Rani Mukherji, Saif Ali Khan, and Aishwarya Rai also performed at the wedding ceremonies.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the world’s most expensive wedding was the 2004 marriage of Vanisha Mittal and investment banker Amit Bhatia, which cost $55 million.

Islamabad: Cameras caught a Spanish wedding scene where two guests were seen literally “shoveling rice” over the newly wed couple outside the church.

What started as a tender gesture, quickly escalated into chaos. Instead of soft tosses, the couple was stormed with confetti cannon pops, shovel thrusts, and rice “poured” from boxes for more than a minute.

The bride had to hide under her veil, and the groom had to turn away to save themselves.

Rice Throwing Ritual

The ritual is deeply symbolic as it is supposed to wish the couple a fruitful, happy life. In Spain, it is a warm wedding custom, often accompanied by exchange of arras coins.

The custom is not uniquely Spanish in origin, it roots in Celtic or Roman traditions. Rice represents agricultural abundance, and showering it on couples symbolizes wishes for a good fortune, and many children.

In Greece, the guests throw rice during the couple’s first dance to wish them “growing old together.”
