Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned proceedings in a defamation case filed against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), linking further hearings to the outcome of a related review petition.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Khan Kakar heard the case.
During the proceedings, the bench sought clarification on the nature of the matter, with counsel for Shehbaz Sharif confirming that it was a civil defamation case requiring detailed arguments.
The court was informed that the PTI founder had submitted his response after a delay of four years.
Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb observed that defamation cases typically involve two parties and, under the law, should ideally be decided within six months.
Counsel for the PTI founder urged the bench to avoid a one-sided view, assuring that all relevant facts would be presented. He also informed the court that a related review petition is scheduled for hearing on April 7.
Subsequently, the court ruled that proceedings in the defamation case would resume only after the verdict in the review matter, formally adjourning the hearing.
