Islamabad: Renowned Pakistani singer Sajjad Ali has clarified that he did not authorize any Indian television channel to use his songs after his hit track “Ravi” was performed on an Indian reality show.

In a video message posted on Instagram, Sajjad addressed speculation surrounding the performance of “Ravi” during Season 10 of the Indian singing reality show, Voice of Punjab Master Champs.

The singer thanked his fans around the world for their continued support, saying he appreciates listeners who perform cover versions of his songs.

“I am deeply grateful to all my fans who listen to and enjoy my music, especially those who create cover versions. Whenever such videos reach me, I watch them and often share my feedback,” he said.

Sajjad explained that he decided to issue the clarification after a video circulated on social media showing two children performing “Ravi” on the Indian Punjabi television program.

He said the performance led to claims in Pakistan that he had refused permission for contestants to sing his songs on Pakistan Idol while allowing an Indian television channel to use his music.

Rejecting the claims, Sajjad said he had not granted copyright permission to any Indian TV channel.

“I did not give the copyright of my songs to any Indian channel. They used our song without permission. They neither sought our consent nor obtained any approval before airing it live,” he said.

The singer added that his legal team would contact the relevant television channel over the unauthorized use of the song.

Referring to the controversy surrounding Pakistan Idol, Sajjad said his stance had been misrepresented for nearly a year.

“My words were distorted, and I deeply regret that,” he said.
