Is the ‘Maryam Nawaz Eid Scheme’ Real or Fake?

News Desk

Lahore: Reports circulating on social media about the Punjab government launching a Rs5,000 Eid scheme for low-income families have been dismissed as false by provincial authorities.

Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari termed the claims “baseless” and clarified that no such scheme has been introduced by the government.

The claim began spreading on March 11, when an Instagram account alleged that the Punjab government had launched a program titled the “Maryam Nawaz Sharif Eid Scheme.”

According to the post, financial assistance of Rs5,000 would be provided to low-income citizens ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr to help cover household expenses.

The post further claimed that residents of Punjab aged 12 years and above could register for the scheme through a government portal. Similar posts were widely shared across platforms including Instagram, YouTube, and X, gaining significant traction.

However, officials have categorically rejected these assertions. Punjab Chief Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Zeeshan Malik, told Geo Fact Check that the claim is not true.

Information Minister Uzma Bukhari also dismissed the reports, stating that the Punjab government has neither issued any official statement nor announced any such initiative.

However, authorities have confirmed that no project titled the “Maryam Nawaz Eidi Scheme” exists, and all related claims circulating on social media are unfounded.
