30 Lives Lost in Bangladesh River Plunge and India Fire Crash

Dhaka/ Pradesh: At least 18 people were killed in Bangladesh when a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River, officials confirmed.

According to a foreign news agency, the victims included six men, ten women, and two children. Local police said the bus was traveling from Rajbari to Dhaka with around 50 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

Authorities stated that the incident occurred as the bus was attempting to board a ferry, when it lost balance and fell into the river. 

Some passengers managed to survive by swimming to the riverbank, while rescue operations were launched to recover victims and search for the missing.

12 people killed, around 20 others injured

In a separate incident in India, at least 12 people were killed and around 20 others injured after a passenger bus caught fire following a collision with a dumper truck in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

According to Indian media reports, the accident took place at approximately 6:00 am. The bus, carrying Hindu pilgrims, was traveling from Nirmal in Telangana to Nellore when it collided with the truck. The impact triggered a fire, engulfing the bus and leaving several passengers trapped, with some reportedly burned alive.

Markapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police Nag Raju said that rescue teams quickly shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have warned that the death toll could rise further as several of the injured remain in critical condition.

Both incidents have sparked grief and concern, highlighting ongoing road and transport safety challenges in the region.
