Rawalpindi: The recovery of a mobile phone from a prisoner inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail has once again exposed serious questions surrounding prison security and administrative oversight at one of Pakistan’s most sensitive detention facilities.

The mobile phone was allegedly recovered from a remand prisoner during a late-night search operation conducted between Monday and Tuesday, according to sources.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over how inmates continue to gain access to communication devices despite strict surveillance measures and the installation of heavy signal jammers inside the prison.

Adiala Jail currently houses several high-profile detainees, including Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, along with suspects arrested in terrorism-related cases.

Security experts warn that the availability of mobile phones inside such a high-security facility could pose significant risks, including unauthorized communication, coordination of criminal activities, or leakage of sensitive information.

Sources said advanced jamming systems are installed throughout the prison to block mobile signals. However, the reported use and recovery of a phone despite these measures has raised concerns about possible security loopholes, internal collusion, or negligence by prison authorities.

The incident has intensified criticism of the jail administration, with questions being raised over routine inspections, monitoring procedures, and accountability within the prison system.

Following the recovery, prison authorities launched an internal investigation to determine how the device was smuggled into the facility and whether prison staff may have facilitated its entry.

No official statement has yet been issued regarding possible disciplinary action or additional security measures after the incident.
