PPP Takes Early Lead in Gilgit-Baltistan Polls, Wins 9 Seats

Gilgit: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the leading political force in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections, securing victory on nine of the 24 seats for which unofficial results have been received so far.

According to preliminary and unofficial results released by election authorities, independent candidates have also made a significant impact, winning six seats. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured two seats, while the Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM) has won one seat.

In GB-1, PPP candidate Amjad Hussain won the seat after securing 10,594 votes, according to results from all 80 polling stations. 

In GB-2, PML-N’s Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman emerged victorious based on results from all 77 polling stations.

Independent candidate Sohail Abbas claimed victory in GB-3 with 7,877 votes, while PPP continued its strong performance in GB-4, where Muhammad Ali Akhtar won with 7,654 votes from all 60 polling stations.

In GB-5, PPP’s Zulfiqar Ali Murad secured victory with 3,705 votes from 32 polling stations.

 The party also won GB-7, where Syed Tauqeer Mehdi Shah emerged successful after results from all 31 polling stations were counted.

MWM registered its lone victory so far in GB-8, where Muhammad Kazim Maisam won based on results from all 57 polling stations.

PPP maintained its dominance in the Skardu region, with Haji Fida Nashad winning GB-9 and Raja Nasir securing victory in GB-10. The party also clinched GB-11 through Iqbal Hassan and GB-12 through Imran Nadeem, who received 12,944 votes to secure a clear majority.

Among other notable results, PML-N candidate Ibrahim Sanai won GB-22 with 10,136 votes from 57 polling stations.

Independent candidates also performed strongly in several constituencies. Haji Anwar Ali won GB-23 with 12,117 votes, while Dr. Asad Shafiq was declared successful in GB-24 after securing 7,164 votes, according to unofficial results from 46 polling stations.

With results from several constituencies still awaited, the final composition of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly remains unclear. Political observers believe coalition-building and alliances could play a decisive role in determining which party ultimately forms the next regional government.
