GB Elections 2026: Who Is Winning Where?

Gilgit: Voting is underway across Gilgit-Baltistan for elections to 24 general seats of the regional assembly, with polling continuing uninterrupted until 5pm.

According to election officials, a total of 958,480 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 503,772 male and 454,708 female voters. For the electoral process, 1,368 polling stations have been established across the region.

A total of 396 candidates, including eight women, are contesting the elections. Among political parties, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has fielded candidates in 23 constituencies, the highest among all parties, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which is contesting 22 seats.

The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) has fielded 15 candidates, while the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Pakistan Nazriyati Party (PNP) have entered 11 and 10 candidates, respectively. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is not contesting under its electoral symbol, is represented by 19 independent-backed candidates. In addition, 266 independent candidates are also in the race.

Several constituencies are witnessing high-profile contests involving candidates from major political parties and independents backed by PTI.

In GB-1, 23 candidates are contesting, with the main competition between PML-N’s Shafiquddin and PPP’s Amjad Hussain. The constituency has 47,373 registered voters and 80 polling stations.

GB-2 has the highest number of candidates, with 40 contenders. The key contest is among former chief minister Hafeez-ur-Rehman of PML-N, PPP’s Jamil Ahmed, and PTI-backed Atiq Pirzada. A total of 55,849 voters are registered in the constituency, where polling is taking place at 73 stations.

In GB-3, 22 candidates are in the field, including PML-N’s Dr Muhammad Iqbal, PPP’s Aftab Haider and PTI-backed Sohail Abbas. The constituency has 52,161 registered voters and 82 polling stations.

GB-4is also witnessing a contest among 22 candidates. Major contenders include PML-N’s Imtiaz Hussain, PPP’s Ali Akhtar, Islami Tehreek’s Muhammad Ayub and independent candidate Dr Ali Muhammad. The constituency has 60 polling stations and nearly 30,000 voters.

In GB-5, 23 candidates are competing, with PML-N’s Javed Ali, PPP’s Zulfiqar Ali Murad, Islami Tehreek’s Prince Qasim, MWM’s Riaz Akbar and independent candidate Wazir Jahangir among the prominent names.

A total of 27 candidates are contesting GB-6, where the main battle is between PML-N’s Prince Saleem Khan, PPP’s Imtiaz-ul-Haq and PTI-backed Neknam Karim. The constituency has 52,041 voters and 89 polling stations.

In GB-7, 13 candidates are in the race, including PML-N’s Akbar Khan, PPP’s Tauqir Mehdi, IPP’s Raja Jalal Maqpoon and PTI-backed Raja Muhammad Zakaria.

GB-8 has 14 candidates, with PML-N’s Imtiaz Haider, PPP’s Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and MWM’s Maysam Kazim among the leading contenders.

In GB-9, 12 candidates are contesting, including PML-N’s Ajmal Hussain, PPP’s Fida Muhammad Naushad and independent candidate Wazir Saleem.

The contest in GB-10 features 13 candidates, including PML-N’s Wazir Hussain, PPP’s Nasir Ali Khan, IPP’s Wazir Muhammad Khan and PTI-backed Dr Muhammad Sharif.

In GB-11, 11 candidates are competing, among them PML-N’s Mohsin Rizvi, PPP’s Iqbal Hassan, PTI-backed Mohsin Zaidi and independent candidate Dr Shujaat Maisam.

GB-12 has 10 candidates in the field, including PML-N’s Tahir Shugri, PPP’s Imran Nadeem, Islami Tehreek’s Raja Azam Khan and PTI-backed Hassan Shugri.

In GB-13, 13 candidates are contesting, with PML-N’s Rana Farman Ali, PPP’s Fahad Hanif and PTI-backed Shahida Khurshid among the main contenders.

A closely watched contest is taking place in GB-14, where 33 candidates are in the race. The principal competition is between PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Farooq and PPP’s Syed Muhammad Abbas.

In GB-15, 20 candidates are contesting, including PML-N’s Abdul Wajid, PPP’s Bashir Ahmed and PTI-backed Naushad Alam.

GB-16 and GB-17 each have 14 candidates, with contests involving candidates from PML-N, PPP and PTI-backed groups.

In GB-18, the key contest is between PML-N’s Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman, IPP’s Gulbar Khan and PTI-backed Muhammad Ayub Qureshi.

GB-19 features nine candidates, including PML-N’s Zafar Muhammad Shadamkhel, PPP’s Jalal Ali Shah, PTI-backed Sher Azam Khan and veteran independent politician Nawaz Khan Naji.

In GB-20, 17 candidates are competing, while GB-21 has 20 candidates in the field, with candidates from PML-N, PPP and PTI-backed groups leading the race.

Meanwhile,GB-22 has the lowest number of candidates among all constituencies, with only seven contenders vying for the seat.

Election officials expect polling to continue peacefully throughout the day, with results likely to shape the political landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan for the next five years.
