Mir Raza Case: Family Opposes Judicial Commission
News Desk
Karachi: The family of young businessman Mir Raza has announced plans to approach the Sindh High Court against the provincial government’s decision to form a judicial commission to investigate his murder.
The family has called for the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT), saying it has lacked confidence in the investigation from the beginning.
In a video statement with her parents, Mir Raza’s sister said the family learned about the judicial commission through the media and questioned the decision to announce it before the police investigation report was presented.
She said the police were expected to submit their report on August 24, but it had not yet been made public. She also questioned why the terms of reference (TORs) of the proposed judicial commission had not been disclosed.
“Do they already know what is in the report?” she asked, questioning the timing of the government’s decision.
The family said it had written to the Sindh chief minister on August 19, raising concerns over the investigation and seeking the formation of a JIT.
The deceased’s sister said the family opposed the judicial commission and would challenge the decision before the High Court.
Lawyer Jibran Nasir, representing Mir Raza’s father, also criticised the government’s decision. Speaking to Geo News, he said the family would seek a JIT through the High Court and formally oppose the judicial commission.
Nasir said the family was not consulted before the commission was announced and that its TORs had not been made public.
He also questioned why the commission was announced before the police were due to present their investigation report before the magistrate.
Nasir further questioned whether the government had already seen the police findings and whether those findings influenced the decision to establish the commission.
He also called for scrutiny of the alleged conduct of police officials, questioning why a JIT had not been constituted earlier to investigate the case. Additional input from Geo News.
