Rain Alert Issued Across Punjab, KP Until September 17

Islamabad: Authorities have issued weather alerts for several districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, with rain, strong winds and thunderstorms expected in various areas through September 17.

Heavy rainfall in upper and mountainous regions could trigger flash floods and landslides, while low-lying areas of major cities face the risk of urban flooding.

According to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected to continue across several districts of the province until September 17.

The department has warned of possible flash floods in upper regions due to heavy rainfall between September 14 and 17.

PDMA reports have also identified a risk of landslides in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi could also experience urban flooding.

Meanwhile, the Punjab PDMA has forecast rain in several parts of the province, including Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan.

Punjab PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwer Jappa has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert and ensure precautionary measures are in place.

The provincial authority has warned of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad, as well as possible flash flooding in seasonal nullahs and storm drains.

Authorities have also been placed on alert over the risk of landslides in Murree, Galyat and other mountainous areas.

The PDMA has directed district administrations and relevant departments to ensure that necessary safety, drainage and relief arrangements are in place to minimise the potential impact of the anticipated rainfall.
