Karachi to Stay Dry Today, But Stormy Weather Looms This Week

News Desk

Karachi: Despite earlier forecasts of drizzle and light rain, the port city is now expected to remain dry for the rest of the day, as weather conditions shift unexpectedly.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), clear and mostly sunny skies are prevailing over Karachi, with no chance of rain or drizzle on Wednesday.

PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazeer said the weather has improved significantly compared to earlier predictions, with sunshine likely to persist for several hours.

He noted that while partly cloudy conditions may develop later in the day, the overall outlook remains dry. Earlier, the Met Office had forecast light rain under the influence of a western weather system, with temperatures expected to reach around 32°C and humidity recorded at 84%.

However, officials have warned that the calm conditions are temporary.

Anjum Nazeer said weather patterns are expected to change from Thursday, with Karachi’s outskirts likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds. He added that a more intense spell is expected on March 28 and 29, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms.

“The system has the potential to intensify in the coming days,” he cautioned.

The PMD has also indicated that northern and eastern parts of the city could see rain from Thursday, signaling the start of unsettled weather across the region.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has already issued an alert, directing its teams to remain on high readiness with necessary machinery in place to respond to any emergencies.

While Karachi enjoys a dry and sunny day for now, authorities are urging vigilance as a potentially severe weather system approaches later this week.
