South Punjab Faces Major Electricity Disruptions

Strong windstorms disrupted electricity supply across Multan and several districts of South Punjab on Saturday after more than 200 feeders of the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) tripped in nine operational circles.

According to MEPCO sources, 15 feeders were affected in Multan Circle, while 40 feeders tripped in Khanewal Circle.

In Muzaffargarh Circle, 16 feeders went out of service, whereas four feeders were affected in Dera Ghazi Khan Circle.

The worst-hit regions were Rahim Yar Khan and Sahiwal circles, where 50 and 51 feeders respectively tripped, causing widespread power outages in multiple localities.

Officials said 34 feeders were affected in Bahawalpur Circle, while 45 feeders were disrupted in Bahawalnagar Circle.

MEPCO authorities stated that strong winds triggered faults in the electricity distribution network across several districts, leading to the outages.

MEPCO Chief Executive Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid directed field staff to closely monitor restoration work and ensure the early resumption of electricity supply.

Chief Engineer (O&M) Muhammad Shehzad Raee was supervising the situation from the Power Control Center, according to official sources.

The company instructed line staff to strictly follow safety protocols during repair operations and begin restoration work immediately after weather conditions improve.
